5 Tips to Master Kid’s Morning Routine

Kid's morning routine

Not everyone is a morning person, but life with kids doesn’t care about our sleep cycles, so whether we like it or not, when kids are involved and back-to-school is in the air, we’ve all got to get with the AM program. Following the right ways can help you master a kid’s morning routine.

How to Master Kid’s Morning Routine?

Setting a clear, consistent morning routine for kids can assist the entire family in getting on board and staying on track. Here’s how to get your kids’ morning routine down pat so that everyone has a wonderful day.

#1 Make sure that your child follows a regular sleeping schedule.

Before we can conquer the morning, we must first get through the night — and get enough sleep. Everything is more difficult for a sleep-deprived child.

Set alarms for the same time every morning “regardless of when you leave the house.”

#2 Make preparations the night before.

Prepare as much as you can the night before to reduce tension in the morning and help you sleep soundly. Whether you’re packing lunches or having your children pick out their clothes for the next day, getting things ready in the evening can help to calm nerves and speed up the morning routine. Incorporating certain duties into the evening routine can also help your children develop responsibility provided they know what is expected of them.

#3 Maintain a routine.

Depending on your child’s age, they may require some extra assistance to complete their morning routine. Children of all ages can begin the day by making their beds. This basic job promotes tidiness, order, and discipline all at once, and it can set in motion other chores.

Morning routine suggestions for your child:

Make the bed: Begin the day by doing a simple activity such as making the bed.

Allow your children to choose their clothing – from head to toe — to encourage creativity and independence.

Feed the pet: Instill responsibility in your child by assigning them to feed the household fish or water the dog every morning.

Gather supplies: Backpacks, lunches, sports equipment, and house keys (for older children) should all be checked.

Turn off all lights: This simple reminder can help you conserve energy and money while also teaching your children to be mindful of their surroundings.

#4 Get ahead the night before

Prepare as much as you can the night before to reduce stress in the morning and help you sleep peacefully. Whether you’re packing lunches or having your children pick out their clothes for the next day, getting things ready in the evening can help to calm nerves and speed up the morning routine. Incorporating certain duties into the evening routine can also help your children develop responsibility provided they know what is expected of them.

Tips to prepare at night:

Make your lunches ahead of time:

Sandwiches, snacks, and produce can all be prepared ahead of time. Give your kids the option of throwing in some short extra snacks in the morning to give them more options.

Assign duties as follows:

Allow your child to set out their clothes for the next day, clean up their rooms, and pack all of the basics away in the evening (including any forms or permission slips that need to be signed!).

Make certain that everything has a  place:

The organization may be made simple by using bins, cubbies, hooks, and file folders to ensure that everything has a place. Keep keys, wallets, and other documents, such as your car insurance, in easily accessible locations.

#5 Realize that kids need your help to move through the routine.

If you want to give your child a pleasant start to the day, you must consider your role as guiding him through the morning routine rather than yelling instructions. That could imply bringing his clothing downstairs with you and having him dress next to you while you nurse the baby so you can address him: “I see you’ve chosen your blue shirt yet again. You seem to like that shirt. You’re putting in so much effort to figure out which shoe goes on which foot. You’re humming as you get dressed today.”

Keep in mind that getting dressed is your priority, not his. He is motivated by your presence. He’s using your “executive function” to stay on track.

Takeaway:

Establishing a routine for kids does not imply being rigid or inflexible. You’re merely laying the groundwork for your child’s happy and healthy future. As your child grows- so will their daily routines. Therefore, be open to changing the routine to match your family’s current needs.

If you want to make your kid independent, choosing a Montessori school would be a great option. Montessori education is known for developing independence and individually paced learning. The Montessori Method also develops empathy, a passion for social justice, and joy in lifelong learning.
