About Toddler Classroom

The Primary classroom, for age group three to six years old, is carefully designed for children to “learn by doing.” It is a calm, structured space constructed to meet a child’s individual needs. Here, your child experiences a blend of freedom and discipline in a space especially designed for his or her optimal development. individual learning experiences, as well as one-on-one interactions, which are integral to the Montessori Method.

As children get older, they tend to see things that adults find ordinary as very interesting and special. Practical life exercises like sorting, pouring, or washing dishes absorb them completely. Montessori learning revolves around tangible, hands-on experiences, which help to control and coordinate the mind and body.

Children use concrete materials to learn math; movable alphabet letters to explore language; and cubes, cylinders and other objects to categorize, find spatial relationships, and more. Practical learning experiences explore key subjects including:

  • Sensorial
  • Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • History
  • Geography
  • Science and Nature
  • Music and Movement
  • Cooking and Nutrition
  • Cultural Awareness

The Montessori Method helps children to discover independence, confidence, and innovation.

Practical Life

Practical Life is the Heart of a Montessori Classroom environment. These lessons help children to develop their Independence, coordination, and concentration through a variety of activities explored daily such as dressing, eating, cleaning.Teachers present these tasks that explore caring of the environment, encourage responsibility and promote self esteem.

Sensorial Learning

The sensorial materials help to order the child’s mind by isolating and emphasizing one quality at a time.Sensorial Materials are designed to sharpen senses and enable deeper understanding of sensations. Through the sensory area, the child is given the facilities to make clear concepts and classifications for all the information gathered thus far through sensory perceptions. They help children become aware of details through, first, strongly contrasted sensations (red vs. blue), and then, through variously graded sensations (various shades of blue). Materials isolate a single quality: color, weight, shape, texture, size, sound, smell, etc., for children to train their focus.

Cultural Activities

Language exercises are offered to the child initially as an aid to the child’s own developmental process for language. Language experiences encourage children to master and blend sounds to build words, instead of the traditional memorization of “sight words.” This gives children the tools to read at a higher level.

Through Mathematical exercises, the child prepares for the emergence of the mathematical mind that exists within him or her. Early mathematics activities are designed to transform ideas into actions, using concrete learning materials, resulting in making abstract concepts clearer to the learner. These experiences explore the underlying fundamentals of algebra, geometry, logic, and statistics, plus operational principles, such as addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction.

Cultural areas include art, biology, geography, history, music, science, and foreign language. In the primary program, children will be exposed to these cultural activities within the environment Science in the Montessori classroom offers a wide range of explorations in areas such as botany, zoology, chemistry, physics, geology, and astronomy. Our intent is to encourage and cultivate children's fascination with the universe and nurture an interest in observing nature and discovering more about the world around them.

Drawing, painting, music, singing, Dance and movement activities, and crafts are some of the ways you will find the arts represented in the Montessori classroom.
